The Moeraki boulders are unusually large, spherical stones, found on the beach Koekohe in Otago, New Zealand. Most striking in these blocks is the unusually large size. Approximately 1 / 3 of them have
diameters of 0.5 to 1 meter and the other 2 / 3 from 1.5 to 2.2 meters. Most are almost perfectly spherical.
However, the spherical Moeraki boulders are not unique. Identical spherical boulders are the so-called Koutu, located on the beach Hokianga, New Zealand and reach a diameter of 3 meters. Also on the north shore of Shag Point, 12 miles south of the point, where these are the Moeraki, similar-sized boulders Katiki.
There are also such boulders and other parts of the world, such as along Cannonball River in North Dakota (with a diameter of 3 meters) in northeastern Utah and central Wyoming (with a diameter of 4 to 6 meters).
